Event Overview: A look at the 1800 completion of America’s first true summit canal and how it transformed commerce in South Carolina.
This program explores the history of the Santee Canal, a 22-mile waterway connecting the Santee and Cooper Rivers. Completed in 1800, it linked the Upcountry to Charleston and revolutionized regional trade before declining in the 1850s.

Admission Details:
Entrance Fee: This free event is open to the public and is a must-attend for historical enthusiasts, genealogists, and anyone interested in preserving Orangeburg County’s rich heritage.
RSVP: Seating is limited, so please grab your free ticket.

Event Format: This is an indoor event, but chairs are limited.
Duration: The presentation and Q&A section will last approximately 2 hours and will need to start on time. Doors open and seating starts at 2:30pm.
Safety Guidelines: Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly as the archives are kept cool.
Parking: Limited parking is available at the society; carpooling is encouraged.
